Talk About Occupy…

There is something intriguing that has been happening across the world: a leaderless community, full of leadership, bubbling up under the Occupy Movement banner.

Like so many, I am sure, I can’t quite put my finger on it but something is astir. There is challenge and change in the air.

A few weeks ago a few development education folk got together in Dublin to look at ways they could offer their skills to the momentum. Out of the discussion emerged the idea of hosting some reflection conversations: to make an accessible, open space available to reflect on the purpose, future and direction of the movement. The group decided to use the ’World Cafe’ format, a methodology designed to build understanding and quickly get conversation shared among small groups. Three cafe’s were planned for this week. I made it down to the second yesterday and will soon head off to the third today. It is happening at 8pm on the Occupy Dame Street site- be sure to wrap up warm!

Yesterday, as the blankets were laid and the rain above nudged, some baloons were added for a slash of upright colour and strangers gathered on the street for what was to be a remarkably open and optimistic conversation….

There are many thoughts mulling about the movement. No doubt tonight will add more to the mix, which I hope to share. For now a few of the images:
